Hi,
this site came into existence with the aim to offer carers of people with dementia the option to find out more, or obtain brain promoting natural solutions for themselves or for their loved one suffering from dementia.
The journal “Alzheimer’s and Dementia” stated in 2022, that dementia affects currently 6.5 million Americans. According to NHS data, 850,000 people in the UK live with dementia. In Germany the numbers are with 1.8 million even higher.
The burden of care lies typically with the family. The financial impact can be great as carers often have to take time out from work to look after their relative. In addition, there is a concern that dementia could affect other family members.
I figured that it is easier to deliver supplements as tinctures (liquid drops) to my relative, instead of laying out pills, powders or huge capsules, hence the title of the site “Brainfood in a Bottle”
Why Mushrooms?
This website looks at all types of brainfood. One focus is to look at mushrooms and their benefits to patients and carers. Not all mushrooms discussed are available from this site.
This site will feature articles, product reviews, and other resources related to brainfood as a dietary supplement to improve memory, focus and cognition.
I am glad that I can exchange research with experts in the field of mycology and mushroom-based health supplements such as the Isle of Wight Mushroom company.
People around the world revere certain items of food, herbs or fungi that are specific to their region or culture. Some of these items, like coffee, tea and chocolate were so successful that they are now consumed all over the world for their cognitive benefits.
Over time this site will offer many more types of brainfood which improve memory, focus and cognition.
Lion’s Mane is a great one for improving brain functions and is a much loved mushroom in Asia. Both Reishi and Chaga have long and credible histories of helping people in their respective geographies in various ways, one of which is to calm the mind. Cordyceps keeps your brain ticking, and just because we can, we also offer Turkey Tail.
Stay tuned! We are soon to launch Ashwagandha, Berberine, Shisandra and Rhodeola.
Ashwagandha is part of the Ayurvedic system of medicine. Studies show that it promotes cognition, focus and memory. It helps both children and seniors who suffer from memory deficiency. Research shows its’ promising use in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and Alzeimer’s diseases.
Schisandra chinensis, the five flavoured fruit, has a long history of use in Chinese medicine. Just like some functional mushrooms, its polysacharides are water soluble and immunomodulating. To make it onto our list, it needed to prove its neuroprotective effects. Extracts of S. chinensis are used to combat neurasthenia and states of exhaustion; The tincture improves the ability to learn and one’s memory, indirectly increasing alertness, improve focus and concentration and mental performance. The extract is used as adjuvant substance in the treatment of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ADHD.
Rhodeola, helps the body fight fatigue and depression. It enhances the body’s resistance to physical and emotional stressors. Stress resistance contributes to the slowing of the aging process. There is evidence that Rhodeola improves learning and memory function.
Berberine is another effective superfood which improves learning and memory deficits.
We prefer tincture supplements over capsules and powders.
The reasons
The body absorbs tinctures more successfully than capsules or powders. Tinctures are easier to ingest than their powdery equivalents.
